Young Carers - Family Action
Young Carers Cumberland supports those aged 18 and under who have caring responsibilities.
Working with each individual, as well as their family, Young Carers Cumberland help reduce caring needs to support the young person to have as normal a life as possible - where they have access to the opportunities that other children their age (that aren’t young carers) would have access to.
All young carers benefit from an assessment to identify what support we can help them with, based on their individual situation.
Support may include:
- A personal support plan (following their Young Carer Needs Assessment),
- 1:1 support sessions,
- whole family support,
- opportunities to meet other young carers
- support with school or college, and
- signposting to other services, information and advice that could be helpful.
The service accepts self-referrals as well as professional. Get in touch.
Parent Carers - Family Action
Parent carers provide ongoing, substantial support and care to a child or young person. This includes grown up children who could not manage without help, typically due to:
- illness,
- disabilities,
- mental health needs, or
- substance misuse.
As a parent carer, you are less likely to see yourself as a carer, including health and social care professionals. So it's important to recognise yourself as a carer so that you can be given the support you need. This may include:
- practical help,
- emotional support, and/or
- financial assistance.
