Things to do

A checklist of things you can do to make sure the days ahead are as easy as possible.

  • Build up a simple daily routine

Getting back on track may be easier 'said than done'. Building up a simple daily (or even weekly) routine allows you to plan in time to rest. It also helps you see what needs to be done and how you can plan out your days.

  • Don't be afraid to ask people how they can help

Sometimes those around us are just waiting for us to ask for their help. Think about whether there is anything that you'd like extra hands with?

  • Can someone you know occasionally deliver cooked meals on your busy days?
  • Can someone you know pop to the grocery store and help with food shopping?
  • Can someone you know collect prescriptions for you?
  • Is there anyone who can simply just provide company for the person you care for?

Need help with figuring out our 'ask'? We know it can be hard to ask for help so we've come up with simple top tips to help widen our caring circle.

  • Are there any services that can help us be productive without leaving the home?

In the first couple of days after returning home, we may not want to leave the person we care for alone (if we live together, or close by). Yet there may be things we still have to do.

Here are some guides that can help us be productive without leaving the house:

Your wellbeing

Finding some time for yourself may not be easy when we are constantly thinking about the person you care for. But it's important to rest. Even short 10 minute breaks can help refresh your mind and give you some energy boost.

How to care for yourself when there is no time

We share four self-replenishment techniques that take less than five minutes, and fits into your busy days.

Top tips from carers

"Remember I am not a whole shift of people looking after her or waiting on her. I am just me doing my best! And she may have to wait for a cup of tea or extra pillows"
